A woman was granted $25,000 bail after appearing before a Sangre Grande Magistrate this Monday charged with failing to report the suspected sexual penetration of her granddaughter to police.

The accused is expected to reappear before the court on March 14.

She was arrested and charged on January 21 by WPC Wells of the Eastern Division Child Protection Unit.

The charge arose following a report made to police in September 2021 when the girl alleged that she told her grandmother a man she knows had sex with her.

Following enquiries spearheaded by acting W/Superintendent of Police Claire Guy-Alleyne, ASP Roberts and Sgt Baptiste, the woman was arrested and charged with the offence.
