After weeks of rumors and speculations, Jamaican dancehall sensation, Spice has confirmed that she has joined the cast of popular urban reality TV show, VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Atlanta.
While some may wonder how the dancehall artist fits into the scope of the show, fans of the show will know that some parts rarely focus on Hip Hop music or love. Notwithstanding, the series has propelled the entertainment careers of many stars of the show.
Cardi B, known for her unapologetic Bronx, New York swag and comedic flare, became an instant hit, some may say due in part to the show. Love and Hip Hop Atlanta event revitalized rapper Remy Ma’s music career after her stint in prison.
Spice, whose real name is Grace Hamilton, hopes the platform will help showcase her Jamaican culture, open doors for Caribbean music, as well as help her branch out into Hip Hop music, she says. Spice appeared on the last season of the show when friend, cast member, Karlie Redd who is Trinbagonian and other cast-mates visited Jamaica on vacation.
Quite the character and entertainer, Spice has a strong social media following and is quite interactive on the platform, which has certainly helped with her popularity. She won’t be the first Jamaican to join the popular television franchise as Rapper/Producer/Writer and Ex to Nicki Minaj – Safaree Samuels is a favourite on the show as well. Spice will however be the first Jamaican female dancehall artist on the show.
Some of her popular hits include So Mi Like It, Needle Eye, and Sheet. She recently released her debut Hip Hop single “Duffle Bag”.
The season premieres on Monday March 19th on VH1.
