MAYOR DE BLASIO AND THE NEW YORK METS ANNOUNCE OVER 200,000 VACCINATIONS ADMINISTERED AT CITI FIELD

(New York, NY – September 1, 2021) Mayor de Blasio today announced with New York Mets President Sandy Alderson that the Citi Field vaccination site has administered 200,000 vaccinations, the most of any New York City-operated site.

In partnership with the New York Mets, Mayor de Blasio and the NYC Test & Trace Corps opened the site back in February to provide 24/7 vaccination access. The site vaccinates an average of 1,200 New Yorkers daily.

“200,000 vaccinations are a home run for New York City’s comeback. Citi Field has become New York City’s most popular vaccination site,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “So much of that is due to the determination of the New York Mets organization and the tireless vaccinators working around the clock at the park.”

Since the opening of the Citi Field vaccination site, a total of 205,748 vaccinations have been administered to 109,980 New Yorkers. There have been 22 days when the site has vaccinated over 2,000 New Yorkers, with a single day peak of 2,501 New Yorkers vaccinated on April 19.

Residents of Queens comprised 94% of first and second dose vaccinations given at Citi Field. Of first dose vaccinations, 41% of recipients were Latino New Yorkers and 36% were Asian New Yorkers. Nearly 27% of first dose vaccination recipients were walk-ins. Young people between the ages of 12 and 17 account for 25% of vaccinations since May 10, when adolescents ages 12 to 15 years became eligible for vaccination.

“Our vaccination site at Citi Field has been a major-league success, providing a landmark location convenient for the people of Queens or anyone else to walk-in or make an appointment and receive the life-saving protection of a COVID vaccine,” said NYC Test & Trace Corps Executive Director Dr. Ted Long.

“I urge anyone who is still unvaccinated to do so immediately, as the Delta variant has created a whole new ball game and thank the courageous frontline workers and Citi Field staff who have kept the site open day after day to ensure the rapid deployment of vaccines to their community.”

The Citi Field vaccination site, located at 36-2 Seaver Way, is open 24/7 Monday through Saturday, with vaccines available at no cost to walk-ins or appointments.

New Yorkers ages 12 and up can make an appointment at nyc.gov/vaccinefinder or by calling 877-VAX-4NYC. If you are interested in receiving the vaccine at home, please register here or call 1-877-VAX-4NYC to arrange an appointment.
