Jimmy Cliff Is Dead

The grammy award-winning singer and star of the movie “The Harder They Come” died of pneumonia his wife said. He was 81 years old.

His family posted a message Monday November 24/ 2025, on his social media sites that he died from a “seizure followed by pneumonia.”

James Chambers, Order of Merit (OM), born on July 30th, 1944, known professionally as Jimmy Cliff, is a Jamaican ska, rocksteady, reggae and soul musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and actor.

A shining star of reggae since the early ’60s, Jimmy Cliff was one of the most powerful factors in bringing Jamaican music to worldwide popularity with both his songs of peace and unity and his lead role in the 1972 film The Harder They Come. His international crossover included consistently popular albums through the ’70s and ’80s (among them 1985.

He produced more than 30 albums.

Cliff was best known among mainstream audiences for songs such as “Many Rivers to Cross“, “You Can Get It If You Really Want“, “The Harder They Come“, “Reggae Night

He left one child: Nabiya Be.

He was only 5’ 5” short but indeed had a very tall & powerful personality.
