On Thursday November 24, 2025, while most American were celebrating Thanksgiving, Vincentians were feverishly voting in their 2025 national elections.
Dr. Godwin Friday leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) was sworn in on Friday (11/28/25) as St Vincent’s 5th Prime Minister since its 1979 independence, after winning a tightly contested electoral race against long-serving former Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, leader of the Unity Labor Party (ULP).
Former prime minister Ralph Gonsalves was the sole winner for the Unity Labor Party (ULP) in the 2025 national election, retaining his seat while the New Democratic Party (NDP) won 14 out of 15 parliamentary seats.
Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, 79 years old, has been in power since March 2001, nearly 24 years.
