By Jewel Crichlow BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — This year’s annual Barbados Reggae Festival kicked off on Sunday on Pirates Cove Beach with some great performances. Two top local mixologists, Philip ‘Casanova’ Antoine and Bryan ‘Fresh’ McLeod, were also working their magic in the VIP section. Some of the local performers appearing at the event were SK and Natalie Harewood, Scrilla, Mole, Stiffy and Jah Reddis. The DJs lined up were Ras & Chasey, Infamous, English and, of course, the 2016 Red Bull Thre3Style world champion, DJ Puffy. The first artiste to perform was Demarco, and he had the crowd singing word to word, as they jammed to the latest tracks. But the crowd made even more noise when Konshens came on.

His DJ, Daddy Al, has been friends with Konshens for years and has been dj-ing for him for six years. He said they both run a hectic schedule, as they perform in different islands and countries every weekend. Overall, the event went well, even though the rain came down, but that did not stop the patrons from enjoying the reggae vibes. The next festival event is on April 28 – Vintage Reggae at the Kensington Oval.
