Gayle stars as Abu Dhabi T10 begins

Chris Gayle smashed 49 off 23 balls as Team Abu Dhabi trounced the Bangla Tigers in the second game of the Abu Dhabi T20 on Friday.

The Jamaican hit 49 off 23 balls and put on 97 for the third wicket with Paul Stirling (59) in Team Abu Dhabi’s 145/4 in their 10 overs.

Andre Fletcher made a quick start with 24 off only eight balls for the Bangla Tigers, but their chase was undermined by Marchant de Lange’s 5/23.

Jamaican Sheldon Cottrell bowled one wicketless over for 18 runs for Team Abu Dhabi.

Delhi Bulls beat Northern Warriors by six wickets

In the opening game of the tournament, Sherfane Rutherford struck 29 off 15 balls as the Delhi Bulls beat the Northern Warriors by six wickets with an over to spare.

Rutherford provided the impetus in the middle overs, while Romario Shepherd hit the first two balls he faced for fours to end off the match.

Shepherd took 1/19 to go with wickets for Ravi Rampaul (1/18) and Dwayne Bravo (1/28) as the Bulls restricted the Northern Warriors to 107/4 in their 10 overs.

Rovman Powell got 38 off 19 balls for the Northern Warriors as they started their tournament with a loss.

The Northern Warriors won the last tournament with Nicholas Pooran as skipper.
